We are the closest to Palestine, says House speaker

Amman, Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi Saturday said, “We are the closest to Palestine, as the blood of the martyrs of its [Jordan’s] Arab army was mixed with its pure soil… We in Jordan have a cause and are in direct contact with any final settlements, especially regarding Jerusalem and refugees.”

Safadi made his comments during a celebration in Amman of the Department of Palestinian Affairs on the birthday of King Abdullah II.

Safadi said that the King’s positions are “solid” in support of the Palestinian cause in all international forums, the latest of which was his intensive meetings with U.S. Administration senior officials and President Joe Biden.

In the meetings, the King urged action to stop the Israeli authorities’ actions and make more efforts to support the Palestinian people in establishing an independent state.

He noted a parliamentary delegation visit to Algiers, affirming the support of 54 Islamic parliaments for the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

Safadi added that the Algiers meetings emphasised the need to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees “UNRWA” to carry on its mandate.
