President of the University of Jordan (UJ), Nathir Obeidat, on Sunday met with the President of Harvard University, Lawrence Bacow, and the accompanying academic delegation.

The meeting, attended by UJ Chairman of the Board of Trustees, covered opportunities for academic cooperation between the two universities, exchange of students and academics, and sending students to complete postgraduate studies.

The visit aims to get acquainted with the UJ as the first and oldest institution of higher education in Jordan.

During the meeting, features of future cooperation between the two parties were identified.

Obeidat pointed out that the university is currently developing a number of its programs, taking into account the employability of students, with a focus on the skills, knowledge and personal characteristics that qualify them for success in their careers, and enhancing the outputs of scientific research.

The delegation visited the university library and toured its facilities. They met a number of students in the American corner in the university, where students participated in a discussion on environmental pollution and climate change and the role of current generations in mitigating their effects. The delegation also visited the two museums of antiquities and popular life located on the university campus.

The Harvard delegation included Vice President for Public Affairs and Communications, Paul Andrew, ice President for Alumni Affairs and Development, Brian Lee, President of Community Partners Consultants, Adele Fleet Bacow, International Relations officer, Mark Schwartz and Associate Vice President and Executive Director of the Harvard Alumni Association Sarah Karmon.

The meeting was attended by UJ Vice President for Scientific Faculties, Ashraf Abu Karaky and International Affairs Unit Director, Hadeel Yaseen.
