Supreme Council of Health (SCH) President Lieutenant-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa congratulated Dr. Mariam Adhbi Al-Jalahma, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), on being granted the Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

He said that the WHO prestigious award reflects Bahrain’s sustainable development strides, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

In a statement, he commended Dr. Al Jalahma’s efforts and iniatitives to promote health over the past decades, noting Bahrain’s qualified medical and administrative workforce.

The Geneva-based World Health Organisation (WHO) conferred the prize on Dr. Al Jalahma in recognition of her efforts in promoting health over the past thirty years.

The award-distribution ceremony was held on the sidelines of the WHO 67th General Assembly, in the presence of health ministers, heads of state delegations and participants at the United Nations Palace in Geneva.

Established in 2019, Nelson Mandela Award for Health Promotion celebrates persons (s) or institution(s), governmental or non-governmental organizations or organizations, who have made a significant contribution to health promotion extended far beyond the call of normal duties.
