PM Chairs A Meeting Of the Ministerial Council for National Security to Discuss Prison Conditions and Management Problems

The Prime Minister, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammad al-Sudani, chaired today, Wednesday, a meeting of the Ministerial Council for National Security, which was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Health, Labor and Social Affairs, representatives of the Public Prosecution and Judicial Supervision, and members of the Council.

The spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahia Rasool, said in a statement that the session was devoted to discuss prison conditions and management problems, at the request of the Iraqi Correctional Department in the Ministry of Justice.

According to the statement, the council discussed the situation in prisons, reviewing the problems in them, developing solutions for them, working to confirm their suitability for their function and protection, and the need to create a unified database on this important file.

The interventions of the ministries concerned with this file were heard, which focused on the issue of rehabilitation of inmates, especially those sentenced to provisions covered by rehabilitation, and an emphasis on continued coordination between the Ministries of Justice, Health and Interior, with regard to the prison file.

According to the statement, the meeting witnessed a discussion of a number of issues related to security and service work related to it, and the issuance of recommendations regarding the topics on the agenda of the meeting.
