Parliamentary committee, Romanian envoy talk ties

The Head of the Jordanian-European parliamentary committee Khaldoun Hayna on Sunday discussed with Romania’s Ambassador George Christian ties and the latest regional developments.

During the meeting, Hayna said that Jordan and Romania have strong political relations that are based on the friendship between the two countries’ leaders, pointing to a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding, as well as jointly implemented programs in the energy, culture, tourism, agriculture and investment areas.

He pointed out the importance of strengthening trade, economic and parliamentary relations, especially in light of the difficult circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

On regional issues, the meeting tackled the status quo, especially with regard to the Palestinian cause, and the positions of His Majesty King Abdullah II towards Palestinians and achieving security and stability in the Middle East. Hayna stressed the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The parliamentary committee hailed the level the “distinguished relations” have reached in various fields, underscoring that they are based on mutual respect and ongoing coordination on various issues of concern.

The members of the committee urged establishing partnerships with the private sector in Romania, overcoming the obstacles facing Jordanian investors in Romanian markets, increasing scholarships for Jordanian students, and leveraging medical tourism in Jordan.

For his part, Christian said that his country supports the Hashemite Custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem, and the ongoing role of King Abdullah in achieving comprehensive and just peace in the region.

He also stressed the need to develop and enhance relations with Jordan, especially in the economic, security and trade cooperation areas, noting that the mutual visits between the leaders of the two countries will prop up economic cooperation, and motivate the private sector and businessmen to leverage the available opportunities in the Kingdom.
