Lower House Speaker, Abdel Moneim Odat, on Sunday received a copy of the National Centre for Human Rights’ (NCHR) 2020 report on the status of Jordan’s human rights.

Speaking at a meeting with NCHR chief, Dr. Irhil Gharaibeh, Odat said the House looks with priority towards the file of human rights and public freedoms, in a way that reflects the King’s directives and Jordan’s efforts in this regard, which would enhance the human rights situation and the rule of law.

Odat stressed the importance of commitment to the rule of law, which constitutes a “basic” guarantee for the rights and freedoms of citizens, lauding NCHR’s role and efforts in assessing Jordan’s human rights situation.

Gharaibeh, for his part, presented the 2020 report’s main themes related to the areas of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, and the rights of groups direly in need for protection.

The NCHR is looking forward to cooperating with Lower House to take the “required” measures to follow up and implement the report’s recommendations, Gharaibeh said.

Lauding the level of NCHR’s cooperation with the Lower House, he said Jordan’s Parliament is an “important” platform to debate all national issues.
