Amman, National Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases Centre (NEIDC) presented its strategy axes for 2023-2025, in the presence of the ministries of health, agriculture, environment, water and irrigation, digital economy and entrepreneurship, and the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM).

NEIDC head, Ra’eda Qutb, said the strategy outlines a roadmap for the center and the partner sectors for the next three years, in line with advanced health developments, stressing the NEIDC’s importance to deal with pandemics, diseases and any threats affecting public health.

Speaking at a meeting held at NEIDC’s headquarters to discuss the strategy’s pillars and goals, Qutb said joint efforts have come “a long way” in recovering from Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, HRH Crown Prince Hussein, and governmental and popular efforts.

Qutb added: “Covid-19 pandemic will not be the last crisis,” as the world has witnessed multiple disasters that affected public health during last years, which could happen once again at any time, or witness new disasters with risks that may threaten human lives, infrastructure and economies, depending on their strength and temporal and spatial impact.

Citing the above reasons for the center as a “necessity,” she indicated that NEIDC’s establishment saw multiple stages and required an “unprecedented” effort until launching its first strategy with its workers’ efforts, in cooperation with all concerned ministries.

The strategy aims to enhance NEIDC’s role as a “major” body concerned with preparedness to confront pandemics, diseases and health threats, plans to prevent and control their occurrence and mitigate their impacts, according to a NEIDC statement.

It also focuses on bolstering Jordan’s health security and support availability and integration of high-quality monitoring data to guide national evidence-based public health practices and policies.

In addition, the strategy seeks to support an “effective” lab network to assume responsibilities at all levels and sectors and take action to back research, development efforts and capacity-building for public health in disease and pandemics fields, the statement added.
