The Jordan Water Company “Miyahuna” and US firm LWF on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to employ modern water leakage detection technology in Miyahuna’s areas of operation.

Minister of Water and Irrigation, Muhammad Najjar, said that the memorandum will serve the Kingdom’s water loss reduction strategy and help transfer know-how and modern technology to water companies across the country.

The minister warned that potable water sources are shrinking year by year, adding that the water loss reduction strategy aims to cut losses by 25 percent by 2040.

According to the memorandum, field surveys will be conducted for water lines with a length of 20 kilometers, and the American company will bear the entire cost. Following that, the Water Authority and Miyahuna will evaluate the technology used, its results, and its feasibility for its use on a larger scale.
