Instant messaging applications will be blocked in all schools where students will sit for the Tawjihi (General Secondary Education Certificate Examination) which will start on June 24th through July 15th, according to a statement released Sunday by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC).

The TRC said it had already addressed telecom companies to enforce the ban minutes before the start of the examination and removes it shortly after students leave the exam’s halls, indicating that the move is aimed at ensuring the integrity and credibility of Tawjihi by preventing cheating or leakage of exam papers.

It said the downtime of messaging apps could affect areas nearby schools where the exam will be held, but nevertheless, it added, the block will be temporary and limited to the exam’s time.
