Lebanon’s Harari resigns from politics

Lebanon’s previous prime minister Saad Hariri Monday announced he intends to suspend his political career and urged “Future Movement,” which was founded in 2007 by Hariri, not to field candidates into the elections.

Hariri said in a televised speech: “We will remain in service to our family, people and country, but we decide to suspend our direct role and responsibility in power, legislature and politics.”

“The prevention of an eruption of civil war forced me to make settlements that came at my expense,” he added.

Hariri had held the office of prime minister for three times since the assassination of his father Rafic Hariri in 2005.
