Amman, Jordan and Iraq have the potential to achieve economic integration in various fields, particularly industry, said President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry (JACI) Fathi Jaghbir on Sunday.
He told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that there are great opportunities for cooperation between the two countries’ private sectors that are waiting to be invested in.
Pointing to Jordan’s promising sectors, Jaghbir said the Kingdom can contribute to Iraq’s reconstruction projects, namely those related to infrastructure, health care, building schools and houses, rehabilitating factories, providing consulting and engineering services, and various technology programs.
The reconstruction of Iraq is a great investment opportunity for the Jordanian economy in light of its challenges, he stated, expressing hope that investment cooperation between the two countries will develop further in the future.
Economic barriers between the two countries became much lesser during the past few years thanks to the political support of the two leaders, various agreements, bilateral meetings, and participation in trade exhibitions and conferences, Jaghbir noted.
He voiced hope that the Jordanian delegation’s visit to Iraq this week, during which a joint business forum will be held, will help expand partnerships in trade.
The Jordanian-Iraqi Joint Committee will convene next Wednesday in Baghdad to tackle enhancing cooperation in various fields.
Jordan-Iraq trade increased in the January-November period of 2022 to some JD707 million, compared to JD415 million in the same period of 2021.
