The Jordanian government condemned the “heinous assassination” of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh early Wednesday in Jenin in the West Bank.

“We condemn this heinous crime that was committed in cold blood against journalists wearing press-marked uniform,” Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesperson Faisal Shboul told the Jordan News Agency (Petra).

The minister added: “This crime is a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and international conventions and norms, which stipulate that journalists and media workers must be protected,” calling on the international community to take action to protect journalists and media workers.

Also, a similar statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates denounced the killing of the Palestinian journalist and demanded an immediate and transparent investigation into the crime.
