A 26-year-old Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli police Friday night at a gate of the Old City of Jerusalem, prompting the occupation forces to close all entrances to Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Haram Al Sharif compound. Eyewitnesses told Petra reporter in Ramallah that Israeli forces stormed the holy esplanade, closed its doors, hemmed in worshippers and guards after they shot a man near the Chain Gate, killing him instantly. Police also closed Al-Sahira and Damascus Gates, barring entry to the Old City. According to a police statement, the man, who came from the Arab Beduin town of Hura in Negev, attacked a policeman and managed to fire shots from a policeman’s gun which he tried to grab during a struggle, and policemen at the site fatally shot him. However, witnesses and family members denied the police allegations, saying he was killed in cold blood at close range without posing any danger, and demanded the release of video footage of the shooting.
