The Lower House Speaker, Ahmed Safadi, on Sunday received Chairman of Independent Election Commission (IEC), Musa Maitaah.

During the meeting, the two sides said state institutions have “remarkable” tasks to complete Jordan’s comprehensive reform process and achieve the Royal vision, which offered an integrated national project, to carry out steps to modernize the Kingdom’s political, economic and administrative system.

Safadi said House will start its work, in the next stage, based on contents of His Majesty’s Speech from the Throne, in a way that contributes to improving performance and meeting citizens’ aspirations.

The House, he noted, is “keen” to cooperate with the various state authorities, given the “great” future responsibilities, which require integrated action to serve Jordan’s higher national interests.

IEC, he noted, assumes a national responsibility now, following the recent constitutional amendments entrusting the commission with examining requests to establish political parties and following up on their affairs.

Lauding IEC’s “remarkable” development in its work, he said the commission won Royal honoring recently for its role in upgrading the management of the electoral process and advancing its performance.

For his part, Maitaah said IEC is committed to carrying out its constitutional responsibilities in implementing the electoral and party laws with “integrity and impartiality.”
