Amman, President of the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (HCD), Prince Mired bin Ra’ad, met Sara Minkara, US Special Advisor on International Disability Rights.

During the meeting held at HCD’s headquarters, Prince Mired valued the continuous support provided by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) programs for the HCD’s activities, especially various capacity-building programmes, which are provided to Jordan as part of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the two countries to support the Kingdom’s economic development.

His Highness also highlighted HCD’s achievements at various levels, to put rights of persons with disabilities on agenda of Jordan’s executive institutions.

In addition, the Prince referred to social disability-based challenges and coordination difficulties often arising with concerned bodies entrusted to implementing Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its strategies.

Commending Minkara’s visit as “important,” he said it expresses US administration’s interest in the issue of disability in Jordan, which signals “continuous” optimism and represents an “exemplary” practice that would motivate all parties to support the Kingdom’s disability file.

His Highness lauded praised Minkara’s efforts and role in promoting the issue of disability across the world, especially at the region’s countries.

For her part, Minkara said her visit comes to support Jordan’s efforts aimed at including rights and issues of persons with disabilities in the action agendas and programs of all Jordanian institutions.

Minkara hailed HCD’s “important” role in providing technical support to various institutions to enable them to carry out their role in the disability fields and its efforts to raise awareness about rights of persons with disabilities.

She expressed her willingness to cooperate and coordinate with HCD in supporting its work on vital files, primarily inclusive education, affordable tourism, and shelter alternatives.
