GCC Secretary General affirms support to restore stability in Yemen

Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed the Council’s keenness to support the restoration of security, peace and stability in Yemen.

The Secretary General remarks came during his reception of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Yemen, Dr. Ahmed BinMubarak.

He underlined the firm position of the Council regarding supporting the United-Nations-led efforts to end the Yemeni crisis through a political solution based on the three references represented by the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216, in order to protect Yemen’s sovereignty and unity, its territorial integrity and independence.

Albudaiwi also shed light on the issues discussed concerning the Yemeni file at the 32nd Arab Summit, which indicated the importance of pulling Yemen out of its crises, achieving peace and ensuring its unity and sovereignty, given that Yemen represents a strategic depth and a factor of stability in the region.

During the meeting, the officials reviewed the developments in Yemen, the efforts made by Saudi Arabia and Oman, and the existing contacts with all Yemeni parties to revive the political process to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable political solution in the country.

The Secretary General praised the pioneering role of the GCC member states in helping the Yemeni people, highlighting the endeavours of King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Centre, which carried out several development projects out of its keenness to back the Yemeni government to provide a decent life for the Yemeni people.

He concluded his statement by appreciating the Yemeni government’s efforts to promote stability, recovery and development in the liberated governorates, and to launch development in the liberated areas, hailing its adherence to renewing the humanitarian truce announced by the United Nations in Yemen.
