FM meets counterparts in New York, talks ties

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi met in New York on Wednesday evening with a number of world foreign ministers.

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said that Safadi met with the foreign ministers of Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, Hungary Peter Szijjarto, Portugal Joao Cravinho, and Malta Ian Borg to discuss boosting relations with the aim of serving joint interests, in addition to regional and international developments, foremost of which was the Palestinian cause, and efforts to resolve crises in the region.

The ministry indicated that Safadi signed with his Hungarian counterpart a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of water management. The minister also took part in a ministerial meeting on developments worldwide and in the Middle East and North Africa region, which was hosted by Qatar in cooperation with the International Peace Institute and the Wilson Research Center.

During a meeting with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, Rola Dashti, Safadi also discussed prospects of joint cooperation, ongoing projects and programs, as well as future initiatives to support the development process in the Kingdom.
