Rome, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, held extensive talks on Thursday, with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani,, focusing on ways to enhance bilateral relations and discuss joint cooperation in confronting regional challenges.

The meeting comes in preparation for the official visit that His Majesty King Abdullah II is scheduled to make to Italy next week, according to a ministry statement.

The two ministers stressed the importance of the the Jordanian-Italian “historic” friendship and the two countries’ keenness to reflect it into “broader” cooperation in the economic, investment, tourism, agricultural and defense fields.

Safadi thanked Italy for its support to help the Kingdom face economic challenges and repercussions of regional crises.

Tajani said his country views Jordan as an “essential” partner in the region, and highly appreciates efforts led by His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve security and stability.

The duo stressed the continued coordination on regional issues, and efforts to achieve stability, security and peace, which is necessary for the region’s stability and the Mediterranean neighborhood.

Valuing Italy’s position in support of the two-state solution, Safadi stressed “seriousness” of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories as a result of the continued stalemate in peace efforts.

This deadlock, he noted, is also triggered by absence of “true” prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution and in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and approved references.
