JUSTICE MINISTER MEETS WITH ICRC DELEGATION TO DISCUSS HUMANITARIAN SITUATION IN LEBANON**


Caretaker Justice Minister, Judge Henry Khoury, on Wednesday received at his ministerial office head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Lebanon, Simone Casabianca Aeschlimann.

The meeting discussed the humanitarian situation in Lebanon and the committee’s efforts to meet humanitarian needs amid the current developments in southern Lebanon.

The ICRC activities in Lebanese prisons and detention centers were also reviewed, and discussions were held on ways to cooperate between the International Committee and the Ministry of Justice.

Emphasis was especially placed on “the importance of activating the work of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law.”

ISLAMIC RESISTANCE TARGETS SHOMERA SETTLEMENT WITH KATYUSHA ROCKETS


The Islamic Resistance announced, in a statement on Wednesday, that it had targeted Shomera settlement (the occupied Lebanese town of Tarbikha) with tens of Katyusha rockets, in response to the Israeli enemy attacks on the southern villages and civilian houses, particularly the horrendous massacre in Hanine.

Amman Stock Exchange Records 0.42% Decline in Trading

Amman: The Amman Stock Exchange concluded trading with a 0.42 percent decline, resulting in the index reaching 2,433 points.

The exchange closed Wednesday’s session with 2.1 million shares traded across 2,537 contracts, totaling approximately JD4.5 million in trading value.

The prices of shares for 36 companies decreased, while those of 27 companies rose, and 25 companies saw stable share prices.

KHCF, Joramco Ink Cancer Care Insurance Agreement

Amman: The King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and the Jordan Aircraft Maintenance Limited (Joramco), an engineering subsidiary of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise, have inked a collaboration pact to extend cancer care insurance coverage to the company’s military and civilian personnel.

As per the Foundation’s announcement on Wednesday, the agreement was formalized by Nisreen Qatamesh, the General Director of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, and Fraser Currie, CEO of Joramco.

Qatamesh emphasized the significance of this alliance in alleviating the financial strain of cancer treatment on patients and their families through participation in a “care insurance” scheme, ensuring access to premium healthcare services at the King Hussein Cancer Center.

Currie underlined the paramount importance of their workforce, expressing their commitment to safeguarding their employees and their families by prioritizing their health to uphold their safety and well-being.

GEAGEA MEETS ‘NATIONAL MODERATION’ BLOC DELEGATION


Lebanese Forces’ leader Samir Geagea met at his Maarab residence on Wednesday with a delegation of the “National Moderation” parliamentary bloc.

The delegation comprised lawmakers Walid Baarini, Sajih Attieh, and Mohammad Sleiman, in addition to former MP Hadi Hbeish.

“We discussed the terms of the initiative and we proposed to Geagea new ideas,” said Hbeish following the meeting. “The bloc will continue its visits to the other parliamentary blocs,” he added.

Parliamentary Elections Slated for September 10, says IEC Chairperson

Amman: Musa Maaytah, Chairperson of the Independent Election Commission, disclosed on Wednesday that the parliamentary elections for the 20th Lower House of Parliament are scheduled for September 10, with the election timetable, including the nomination date, set to be announced next week.

Addressing a press conference at the Commission’s headquarters, Maaytah stated that the decision aligns with the Election Law for the Lower House of Parliament No. 4 of 2022 and the Independent Election Authority Law No. 11 of 2012.

The announcement followed a Royal Decree issued by His Majesty King Abdullah II, mandating the elections in accordance with the law.

During his visit to the Independent Electoral Commission, King Abdullah II met with its Chairman and members to assess preparations for managing and overseeing the electoral process.

Maaytah noted, “The issuance of the royal decree coincided with His Majesty’s visit, during which he emphasized the importance of conducting the electoral process with integrity an
d transparency.”

He continued, “Next week, the Commission will release the timetable, governing all stages of the electoral process, including nominations.”

The electoral process initiates with obtaining voter lists from the Civil Status and Passports Department, which then distributes voters across approximately 1,600 polling and counting centers in 18 electoral districts based on residency.

Maaytah affirmed the Commission’s readiness to conduct the electoral process transparently, highlighting the electronic voter registry, which encompasses over 5 million voters, and the identification of 1,600 polling centers and 19 main electoral committees.

The Commission collaborated with the Ministry of Interior to streamline residence transfers, conducted experimental elections in partnership with the Ministries of Education and Youth to simulate the new election law, and launched an executive plan to integrate persons with disabilities into the process. Additionally, awareness materials were produced, and the Co
mmission’s website was enhanced to cater to their needs.

NATIONAL ECONOMY PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE PLANS ECONOMIC OVERHAUL FOR 2025 BUDGET


The National Economy, Industry, Trade, and Planning Committee, chaired by MP Farid El-Bustani, met on Wednesday to discuss the economic situation and plans for the 2025 budget.

The meeting criticized the 2024 budget for lacking an economic vision and decided to adopt the McKinsey plan from 2017.

The committee aims to develop ideas with input from experts and international organizations like the World Bank and IMF to present a comprehensive economic plan for the new government.

The meeting also discussed restoring confidence in the banking sector and compensating depositors.

AMBASSADOR BERIK ARYN IS ELECTED AS NEW IOFS DIRECTOR GENERAL


The Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) is pleased to announce the election of His Excellency Ambassador Berik Aryn as its new Director General. This decision was unanimously adopted by Ministers of Agriculture and representatives from IOFS Member States at the First Extraordinary General Assembly, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiya, Minister of Municipality of the State of Qatar, with the participation of esteemed Ministers of Agriculture from countries including Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia and IOFS Member states. The election followed the procedures outlined in Articles 10 (2e) and 15 (2) of the IOFS Statute, ensuring a transparent and equitable process.

Ambassador Aryn brings a wealth of leadership experience to the role, with a distinguished career in international diplomacy and public administration. His previous roles as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and as Permanent Representativ
e of Kazakhstan to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), showcase his strong capabilities and readiness for this position.

The election of Ambassador Aryn marks the beginning of a new chapter for the organization, centered on strengthening cooperation and advancing the IOFS’s mission to promote food security among its member states.
