The AstroJo Institute signed a memorandum of understanding with the University College London (UCL) for ExoMol, a UCL-run scientific research and training project.
According to AstroJo, ExoMol, which is a database of molecular line lists that can be used for spectral characterization and simulation of astrophysical environments such as exoplanets, brown dwarfs, cool stars and sunspots, is conducting studies to monitor life in exoplanets.
Seven researchers from AstroJo are participating in the project and a meeting will be held in London next February to discuss important outcomes of research studies.
AstroJo Director-General Alaa Azzam said the project seeks to find life indicators such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide on extrasolar planets.
She added that an aerial telescope will be sent to space by the start of 2030 in cooperation with the European Space Agency, noting that it will use ExoMol data to mark planets that have potentials for life existence.
The ExoMol project was launched in 2010 and AstroJo later joined in 2017.
