Amman, The Amman-based Arab Wings on Thursday celebrated the first air ambulance license in the region granted by Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory commission (CARC), which enables the private airline to transport patients and their escorts to and from the Kingdom’s hospitals.

Deputizing for Minister of Health, Secretary General of Secretary-General for Primary Health Care and Epidemiology, Raed Shboul, said His Majesty King Abdullah II attaches “remarkable” interest to Jordan’s health sector and medical tourism, as the nation has “sufficient” ingredients to become a “distinguished” destination for this industry.

In addition, Shboul noted His Majesty stressed the importance of the private sector initiative in creating technical solutions to attract tourists and stimulate their flow to Jordan, highlighting the public sector’s role to provide the necessary facilitations in this regard.

He noted the step to operate an air ambulance plane with Arab and European countries is viewed a technical solution to attract tourists and encourage treatment in Jordan.

He also highlighted the need to continue developing medical tourism services to remain “competitive” to support the national economy.

For his part, Arab Wings CEO, Ahmed Abu Ghazaleh, said the airline’s achievement enables airlifting patients to and from Jordan, or any regional and EU country onboard aircrafts equipped with all medical equipment necessary to at any hospital set as the desired destination.

The airline contracted Abdali Hospital to provide qualified and licensed medical staff in the air ambulance field to accompany patients during their journey, he pointed out.

Abu Ghazaleh stressed the importance of introducing new services to serve patients and encourage medical tourism in Jordan.
