Arab Cultural House in Berlin Organizes Dialogue Session on Public Art in Qatar, Germany

The Arab Cultural House “The Diwan” in Germany, under the auspices of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Berlin, organized a second session of a series of dialogue sessions entitled “Public Art in Qatar and Germany: Its Variety and Meaning”, in cooperation with Qatar Museums and Deutsche Bank, held via videoconference.

First Secretary and Cultural Affairs Officer at the Embassy of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany and the Arab Cultural House in Berlin Asma bint Mohammed Al Bakr stressed the importance of this dialogue, which brings together experts and participants from Qatar and Germany, in an important field that is developing remarkably and rapidly and of great interest to all members of society.

For his part, Director of Public Art at Qatar Museums Abdulrahman Al Ishaq reviewed the role of public art in the State of Qatar, which is an essential building block in the public life of members of Qatari society. He also reviewed the most important artworks found in public squares and centers in the State of Qatar, such as Richard Serra’s artwork titled: East West – West East.

Al Ishaq stressed that Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup is an opportunity for visitors to learn about Arab culture through art exhibitions held by Qatar Museums and artworks displayed in the public sphere of the country, which would highlight an important part of the culture of the country.
