Activities of Madaba, Arab Tourism Capital for 2022, to kick off next Tuesday

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) is scheduled to launch activities of Madaba, the Arab Tourism Capital for 2022, next Tuesday.

According to a joint statement released Sunday, a ceremony will be held to kick off the year-long activities, which feature festivals, art exhibitions, forums, competitions and handicrafts, as well as musical and theatrical performances.

The events, which will be held at Madaba Visitors Center, will feature a musical performance by Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), a book fair, launch of “Art in Service of Tourism” initiative and a handicraft exhibition, the ministry said.

To better seize the opportunity to highlight Madaba’s history, activities will also be held at Madaba Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration (MIMAR), which feature an exhibition on production of mosaic panels for archaeological sites, the statement pointed out.

The MIMAR-hosted events will also include a photo exhibition on Hashemite history, folkloric show from local Theban’s town, as well as highlighting a documentary book on Madaba’s mosaic attractions.
