Arab parliament condemns far-right Israeli minister storming of Al Aqsa Mosque

The Arab Parliament Tuesday inveighed against Israeli Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s storming of Al Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

In a statement, the pan-Arab legislature said, “Attempts to prejudice the historical and legal status of the Islamic and Christian holy places in occupied Jerusalem and undermine the freedom of Muslims to pray in Al Aqsa Mosque are rejected and invalid.”

The statement noted the “need” to respect Jordan’s role in managing, caring for and protecting holy sites under international law. It said the Israeli authorities are responsible, as the occupying power, for preventing “actions or practices targeting the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of occupied Jerusalem.”

The Arab Parliament urged the international community and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities and protect Palestinians and their religious sanctities.

Israeli forces kill Palestinian boy in West Bank refugee camp

A 15-year-old Palestinian boy was killed on Tuesday by Israeli forces during a raid of a refugee camp near Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank that sparked clashes with local youths.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said in a statement that the occupation soldiers stormed homes in Dheisheh refugee camp using rubber-coated live bullets, tear gas and stun grenades against local people who confronted them, leaving a boy injured in his chest.

The medical crew transferred the injured to the Beit Jala Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the PRCS added.

Saudi condemns far-right Israeli minister storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Saudi Arabia Tuesday condemned the “provocative” actions of far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque amid international protest.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Saudi Foreign Ministry said Riyadh is “sorry” that the Israeli authorities had undermined international peace efforts and carried out actions that run counter to international principles and norms in respect of sanctities.

Saudi Arabia reiterated its “firm” support for the Palestinians and efforts to end the decades-long occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Police put away drug dealer wanted for homicide

An investigation team of the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) arrested a “dangerous” drug dealer, who is also wanted in a murder case in the Mafraq governorate.

Media spokesman for the Public Security Department (PSD) said the team located the suspect, who had been using a tent in a remote desert location to stash drugs. A task force raided the tent at dawn Tuesday and arrested the wanted man and two other individuals, seizing 100,000 narcotic pills and several firearms and ammunition.

Lawmakers condemn far-right Israeli minister’s storming of Al Aqsa Mosque

The Lower House Tuesday condemned Israel’s new far-right police minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s storming of Al-Aqsa mosque compound along with a group of extremist Jewish settlers.

Ben-Gvir arrived early today at the compound, Islam’s third holiest shrine, on his first visit to the flashpoint site since taking his ministerial post in the new far-right government, despite warnings from the opposition.

“This behavior is a violation of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, a provocation worthy of condemnation and a flagrant and unacceptable violation of the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its sanctities,” the chamber’s Foreign Affairs Committee said in a statement.

It reiterated that the ongoing violations and attacks on Palestinian sacred places herald in further escalation and represent a “dangerous orientation that the international community should immediately work to stop.”

The committee held Israel fully responsible for the “dangerous consequences of this escalation, which undermines all efforts that had been made to prevent an escalation of violence that threatens regional security and stability”, stressing the need for settlers to stop the provocation, violations of religious sanctities and “brutal” attacks on Palestinians.

Qatar Tuesday condemned far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli forces, calling the minister’s actions a “flagrant violation of international law.

In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned of the Israeli authorities’ policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, adding that attempts to “tamper with the religious and historical status of Al-Aqsa Mosque are not only an attack on the Palestinians but also on millions of Muslims around the world.”

The Foreign Ministry held the Israeli authorities “solely” responsible for the violence that might ensue from the “systematic” escalation against Palestinians and Islamic and Christian lands and sanctities, urging the international community to take urgent action to stop the escalation.

It added that Qatar supports the Palestinian cause and the “legitimate” rights of Palestinians, including the right to practice their religious rites without restrictions and establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Jordan condemns Israeli minister’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

Jordan on Tuesday strongly condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ al-Haram al-Sharif compound by the Israeli national security minister, under the heavy protection of the Israeli forces.

Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Sinan Majali said in a statement that the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by an Israeli cabinet member and violating its sanctity is a condemned and provocative and amounts to a flagrant violation of international law, as well as of the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its sanctities.

Majali warned that continued breaches and attacks on holy sites, as well as Israeli raids into occupied Palestinian territory, could lead to further escalation, urging the international community to take swift and decisive action to put an end to such practices.

He emphasized that the holy compound, which covers a total area of 144 dunums, is a solely Muslim place of worship, and that the Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the body with exclusive jurisdiction to manage all affairs of the compound and organize entry to it.

The ministry’s official spokesman held Israel solely accountable for the grave consequences of this escalation, which he asserted threatens undermining all efforts made to prevent an upsurge in violence that endangers security and peace.

In addition, he demanded that Israel, as the occupying power, immediately cease all efforts to alter the legal and historical status quo and impose spatial or temporal divisions.
