تُعَد المنتجات البلاستيكية بمثابة المواد الرئيسية المستخدمة في تغليف الوجبات الجاهزة والتوصيل السريع، وفي حين أنه ليس من الممكن استبدال المواد البلاستيكية بالكامل بمواد بديلة، فإن الأبحاث المتعلقة بالمواد البلاستيكية القابلة للتحلل تَرسم مسارًا أوضح لتوفير الطاقة وخفض الانبعاثات.

ويشير تقرير المواد البلاستيكية القابلة للتحلل إلى أنه بناءً على وقت المعالجة الفعلي في الصين لإجراءات التسميد الصناعي والتخمير اللاهوائي، يجب تعديل مؤشرات التقييم الخاصة بالمواد القابلة للتحلل إلى 30 يومًا لوقت تحلل التسميد الصناعي، و40 يومًا لوقت التحلل المحدود للتخمير اللاهوائي. كما يُنصح بتشجيع استبدال المواد البلاستيكية القابلة للتحلل في باديء الأمر في الأماكن التي تكون فيها إعادة تدوير البلاستيك صعبة أو غير متاحة.

Man’s body recovered from King Abdullah Canal

Civil defense personnel in western Irbid on Saturday pulled the body of a young man, who drowned in King Abdullah Canal in Northern Shouneh region.

In a statement to “Petra” on Saturday, director of Moaz bin Jabal Hospital, Ihsan Matalqa, said the 23-year-old man was evacuated to the emergency department, but died before arriving to get medical treatment.

The body was transferred to forensic medical center in northern Irbid governorate to determine cause of death, he added.

Jordan’s garment, footwear imports up over 1st 9 months 2022-Data

The Kingdom’s apparel and footwear imports increased during the past nine months of 2022 by 27.2 and 25.5 percent, respectively, compared to the same period last year 2021.

According to Textile and Readymade Clothes Syndicate’s statistics, the value of apparel imported into the Kingdom during the past nine months of 2022 amounted to about JD174 million, compared to JD136 million for the same period last year.

The value of the Kingdom’s footwear imports during the January-September period amounted to JD42 million, compared to JD33 million in 2021, the data showed.

During the last nine months of 2022, China was the top exporter of clothing and footwear to Jordan by 40 and 62 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom clothing imports from China amounted to JD70 million, compared to JD56 million during the same period last year.

The rest of the Kingdom’s apparel imports during the past nine months of 2022 included Turkey at a value of JD41.9 million, non-Arab Asian countries (excluding China and Turkey) at JD41.6 million, Arab states at about JD13 million and European nations at JD6 million.

Over the same period, the Kingdom’s footwear imports from China amounted to JD26 million, compared to JD21 million for the same period last year 2021.

The rest of the Kingdom’s footwear imports during the past nine months of 2022 included Turkey at a value of JD4 million, non-Arab Asian countries (excluding Turkey and China) at a value of about JD6 million, Arab countries at JD1.6 million and European nations at JD2.7 million.

JFDA stops approvals of all food products with titanium dioxide

Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has stopped granting licenses to any food product that contains titanium dioxide, since its decision last August to ban its use and prohibit its import, or any production inputs containing this additive, and canceling all previous approvals.

In a press statement on Saturday, JFDA Director General, Nizar Mahidat, said a deadline has been given until December 31, to implement the ban completely on this additive and find an opportunity to rectify the situation and replace titanium dioxide with another safe and permitted substance.

This decision, he noted, came as a proactive measure, in light of the decision of European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and its continuous updates and studies on the inability to deem titanium dioxide a safe substance for use in the food industry.

Simulatneoulsy, information lacks on this additive as a carcinogenic according to the approved international references, foremost is Codex Alimentarius (CODEX), which still allows its use, he pointed out.

European Union granted approvals for various products containing titanium dioxide, which could reach up to five years preceding the ban decision. The substance is still allowed in a number of countries, including Britain, Australia, the United States of America, Canada and China.

Action to address bureaucratic obstacles necessary to attract investments-JCC

The private sector, as the main driver of Jordan’s economic growth, believes that the Kingdom is capable of attracting investments, provided that bureaucratic procedures are overcome, representative of financial and banking sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Firas Sultan, said.

In a statement on Saturday, Sultan noted investment opportunities are “rich and available” in Jordan’s various sectors with high added value, especially in information and communications technology (ICT), healthcare, food and pharmaceutical industries, medical tourism, financial and banking sector, infrastructure, water, energy and agriculture.

Sultan stressed the need to revisit the tax basket in its various forms and exert efforts to remove the obstacles facing the business environment to attract more investments to advance the national economy and create more job opportunities for Jordanians.

In addition, he noted Economic Modernization Vision is a roadmap for the next ten years and an important turning point, which unleashes potentials of the Jordanian economy to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic growth, increase the Kingdom’s gross domestic product and hire more than one million young people in the Jordanian labor market.

The vision’s economic growth priorities were divided into five main growth drivers consisting of priority main and sub-sectors, including high-value industries, education, entrepreneurship, research and development, logistics, communications and information technology, health care, tourism, energy, water and other priority sectors in Jordan, he pointed out.

Success in achieving the vision’s axes, which was launched under Royal directives, requires providing an “attractive” investment environment, continuing reforms and removing current obstacles, most notably are legislation instability, the region’s unstable situation and bureaucratic procedures, he said.

The government, he noted, exhibited awareness about serious issues facing foreign investment attraction and support to the local investor, which are the cornerstone of business expansion.

The new Investment Environment Law 2022 was endorsed, which sets investor rights and privileges and provides fair, equitable and transparent treatment in accordance with international best practices in this regard, he said.

Jordan’s financial and banking sector is “solid and resilient” and is making progress, thanks to the “prudent” monetary policies launched by Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ), under a “true” partnership and continuous contact, due to the sector’s importance and its role in maintaining Jordanian currency’s stability and increasing the Kingdom’s foreign reserves, he noted.

Foreign Ministry condemns passenger bus blast in Mali

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned the bombing of a passenger bus in central Mali on Thursday, which killed and injured dozens of civilians.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry affirmed the Kingdom’s condemnation of all forms of violence and terrorism, and its solidarity with Mali, expressing its condolences to the victims’ families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
