Minister of State for Legal Affairs/ Chairperson of Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment, Wafaa Bani Mustafa, met on Sunday, Director of the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) Institute, Sherine Shaheen, and her accompanying delegation.

Speaking at the meeting, Bani Mustafa presented Jordan’s three modernization paths currently being implemented at the beginning of its second centenary, which are Royal Committee to Modernise the Political System (RCMPS), Economic Modernization Vision, and Public Sector Modernization roadmap.

The minister also referred to the executive plan carried out by Women’s Empowerment Team, developed to implement Economic Modernization Vision’s outcomes, with the aim of integrating women’s opportunities and enhancing their participation in the labor market in accordance with the vision’s axes.

For their part, WANA delegation reviewed projects currently being implemented in the field of social justice and human security, in addition to plans to train Jordanian youth on research skills and produce public policy papers in these areas.

The delegates expressed aspiration to partner and work with Ministerial Committee for Women Empowerment, and align their programs with its goals and tasks that are underway.

Jordanian-Syrian Economic Forum, organized by Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), in cooperation with Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce (FSCC) continued its activities in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on Sunday.

The forum, which is scheduled to conclude Monday, constitutes an important economic impetus to further strengthen trade relations between the two brotherly countries and launching a phase of commercial partnership to stronger levels to meet common aspirations.

Speaking at the event, Syrian Minister of Industry, Ziad Sabbagh, said the current global economic developments require the two countries to draw a road map and reconsider their common economic status, which would be reflected jointly by establishing industrial partnerships that achieve added value and high quality.

Syria, he added, is working today to rehabilitate its industrial sector, which was subject to systematic sabotage and destruction during the crisis that reflected in its contribution to Syria’s GDP.

Syria is seeking industrial partnerships with Jordan to help it rehabilitate its sectors and import raw materials, he noted, lauding level of current bilateral relations.

He called on taking advantage of the comparative advantages available in the two countries, especially in labor, raw materials and industries fields, highlighting importance of launching complementary work and exchanging expertise.

For his part, Syrian Minister of Agriculture, Mohammad Hassan Qatna, pointed to Syria’s official interest in strengthening his country’s relations with Jordan in the economic fields, especially in agricultural domain.

Qatna also referred to continuous coordination in this regard, which has led to new understandings related to the agricultural field and facilitating exchange of agricultural products between the two sides.

Syria, he noted, has a “strong” desire to benefit from Jordanian poultry industry, adding that his country will harness its capabilities for Jordanian private sector to establish joint investments and integrate technology to this sector.

Syrian agricultural sector is able to compete in export markets and provide products according to the standard specifications countrywise, he pointed out.

Syriia reached an understanding with Jordan regarding plant quarantine, he noted, calling on launching a single health certificate and veterinary quarantine system.

Qatar plans to hike its imports of Jordanian food products during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as demand in the Qatari local market is expected to increase at unprecedented rates, as more than 1.5 million fans and visitors are expected to enter the Gulf country.

Qatar relies heavily on Jordanian market to secure a large quantity of of its consumer needs of vegetables and fruits and to a lesser extent on other various foodstuff varieties, whether processed or fresh.

In interviews with “Petra” on Sunday, Qatari importers and food dealers in Doha said their country’s market has always relied heavily on Jordanian food products, at certain periods of the year that witness “great” consumer demand, such as Ramadan and exceptional circumstances of 2022 World Cup.

The tournament is expected to raise volume of demand for the agricultural and food production sector to unprecedented rates in the Gulf country, Qatari importers added.

This event would lead to a “huge” increase in the volume of local demand for food products, vegetables and fruits, given the large numbers of fans who are expected to arrive in the country, traders pointed out.

Volume of Jordan-Qatar trade during the past ten years amounted to more than 11.5 billion riyals ($3.17 billion), the latest statistics on Qatar’s foreign trade, released by Qatar’s Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) showed.
