Cabinet issues a slew of decisions

A Cabinet session held Sunday, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Khasawneh, approved the mandating reasons for 2022 bylaw for occupational safety and health and prevention from labor-related hazards in institutions.

The system aims to set purposes of identifying procedures, precautions and measures necessary to protect workers from occupational hazards, reduce labor-related accidents, injuries and diseases, in line with Arab and international standards for occupational safety and health.

The Council of Ministers also okayed decisions issued by Board of Commissioners of Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), which granted Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC) the rights to mine phosphate ores within lands in the southern Ma’an governorate.

Under the decision, the mining rights are subject to any future amendments or related steps taken by Council of Ministers in this regard to ensure proper implementation of projects in mining areas, or plans to rehabilitate them and ensure fair and rewarding profits to the state Treasury.

The decision also seeks to empower the franchise to benefit exclusively from the mining right.

Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat and Director General of National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), Hassan Abdullah, on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance joint cooperation aimed to ensure protection and stability of Jordan’s electric grid and conserve forest wealth.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Hneifat said the MoU continues joint efforts aimed to preserve forest areas and avoid power outages and disruptions.

The minister also said the MoU is a framework to support joint partnership and coordination, helps speedy response, regulates work and reduces risks to electrical network’s workers and protects green cover countrywide.

For his part, NEPCO head said the memo would contribute to strengthen joint partnership and schedule works in all areas covered by the electric grid.

He also referred to joint efforts to establish a wide forest within sustainability measures, in coordination with Ministry of Agriculture.

The two sides agreed to work together to reduce power outages caused by falling trees, or overlap with electric wiring, in a balanced manner that preserves forest landscape, as the memo sets a specific detailed work mechanism for the two sides.
