Jordan, Qatar review ways to enhance transport cooperation

Minister of Transport, Wajih Azaiza, on Thursday discussed with President of Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), Mohamed Faleh Alhajri, and his accompanying delegation, a number of issues of common interest related to civil aviation sector.

Speaking at the meeting, which was attended by Chief Commissioner /CEO of Jordan Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC), Haitham Misto, Azaiza stressed the need to overcome all obstacles facing this vital sector and increase cooperation and consultation to upgrade level of services provided to citizens in both countries.

For his part, Alhajri stressed the importance of strengthening Jordanian-Qatari relations and highlighted the need to increase joint cooperation frameworks on transport patterns.

The Qatari official also referred to the aviation sector, which is witnessing an increasing development in the two countries.

Adviser to the Prime Minister for Health Affairs and Covid-19 file, Dr. Adel Belbisi, called on the public to receive Covid-19 vaccine to increase dose coverage rate to control the pandemic and its damage to the unvaccinated people for all age groups.

In statements to “Petra” on Thursday, he said the Kingdom recorded “satisfactory” rates of administering different doses, urging people to receive the booster dose 6 months after receiving the second or third jabs, especially the elderly and high-risk groups, who suffer from chronic diseases, in a bid to increase immunity against the disease.

He also noted the national anti-Covid-19 immunization campaign is continuing in the Kingdom’s various centers, adding that locations are announced daily at Ministry of Health’s website.

To date, he announced the number of first dose recipients until Thursday stood at 4815000, the second dose at 455, 2000, and the booster jab at 674,000.

Regarding the 12-17 year-old age group, he noted the number of first dose recipients reached about 239,000, and the second jab hit 204,000.

Meanwhile, the number of first dose recipients among the 5-11 year-old age group reached 310 and the second dose at 230.

On the reasons behind the most recent Covid-19 fatalities, he noted majority of deaths recorded during the past week belong to people over 65yrs and 35% did not receive the vaccine.

Other victims received two doses more than 6 months ago and did not receive the third and fourth booster jabs, he added.

Jordan Pharmacists Association (JPA), in cooperation with Jordan Customs Department (JCD), on Thursday organized a workshop entitled (Safe Medication…National and Legal Responsibility), launched by Director General of Jordanian Food and Drug Administration (JFDA), Dr. Nizar Mheidat.

During the event, JPA head, Mohammad Ababneh, said Jordan is classified a country that is free of counterfeit and smuggled drugs, at 0% rate.

Ababneh noted maintaining drug security and community health requires effective and safe drug delivery to the citizen at licensed and trusted pharmaceutical institutions.

In addition, he called for orchestrating JPA, JCD and JFDA efforts to activate monitoring standards on the mechanisms related to entry of drugs into the Kingdom at various border crossings.

Meanwhile, Mheidat referred to the increasing attempts to smuggle counterfeit medicines, which harm the patient’s health and affect Jordan’s drug reputation.

Jordanian official institutions are making efforts to monitor drug entry and exit into and out of the Kingdom and combat smuggling, Mheidat noted.

In this regard, he pointed to the JFDA’s role in monitoring restricted drugs and regulating their entry and exit by implementing related laws and enacting the necessary legislation to prevent any misuse.

He also referred to JFDA’s inspection tours to ensure drug quality locally and control smuggled and counterfeit medicines.

He called on the participants to produce specific recommendations to be implemented, according to a clear work mechanism, in cooperation with the concerned national institutions.

Minister of Investment, Khairy Amr, stressed the importance of securing funding for investment projects to ensure their success and expansion, as investment is an important driver to stimulate economic growth.

Speaking at a dialogue session organized by the Association of Banks in Jordan (ABJ) on Thursday, Amr noted investment plays a key role in achieving better and more comprehensive development, as a way to utilize human, natural and financial capabilities.

In partnership with Jordan’s legislative authorities and the private sector, he said the government seeks to produce an “attractive and competitive” investment law, which would attract new investments and empower the existing businesses.

Ministry of Investment, he noted, was established to facilitate investor transactions and provide “competitive and attractive” incentives, which would stimulate economic growth, improve competitiveness and create job opportunities.

A Cabinet session held Thursday, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Khasawneh, approved an amended Civil Service Bylaw for 2022.

Under the amendments, the new bylaw enables Jordan’s Judicial Council (JJC) and its affiliated bodies to carry out their tasks, in accordance with the legislation regulating their work, by providing a sufficient number of employees to join those entities from Ministry of Justice’s staff.

In addition, all worker rights will be preserved, in addition to job incentives, bonuses, and privileges allocated to Ministry of Justice’s employees, including their continued subscriptions under the ministry’s Social Solidarity Fund (SSF), under provisions of the civil service bylaw and other related legislation in force.

In a related context, the Council of Ministers approved amended bylaws of JJC General Secretariat, Judicial Institute of Jordan ( JIJ ), technical offices of Court of Cassation, Supreme Administrative Court and Courts of Appeal, and Directorate of Inspection of Regular Courts.

The Cabinet also okayed an amended bylaw unifying salaries and allowances for Public Security Directorate (PSD) personnel for 2022, with the aim of standardizing allowances granted to all PSD officers and servicemen.

The Council also approved the mandating reasons for the project of 2022 Housing Fund Bylaw for Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) employees and referred it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau (LOB) to follow the fundamental procedures for approval.

On the other hand, the Cabinet approved a reconciliation agreement between Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) and Orange and Umniah companies, with the aim of supporting and stimulating the mobile telecom sector and licensing the fifth generation frequencies.

The Council also decided to approve issuance of the unified Arab stamp 2022, which will be released by Arab postal authorities and bears logo of the upcoming Arab summit to be held in Algeria.

With the aim of continuing to support families and individuals affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, PM Khasawneh decided to extend “Estidama: Sustainability” program, which was launched under Defense Order No. (24) for 2020 and the circulars issued pursuant thereto, until end of next October 2022.

An official communiqué will be issued in the Official Gazette explaining details related to the extension decision.
