Normal summer conditions forecast until Wednesday – JMD

A slight drop in temperatures is expected, on Sunday, as normal summer conditions prevail in hilly areas and plains, while hot conditions are forecast in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and the port city of Aqaba, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

Winds will be northwesterly moderate, picking up at times, the JMD added.

Temperatures in the capital Amman will range between a high of 29 degrees Celsius and a low of 17 degrees.

Highs in the port city of Aqaba will stand at 39 degrees during the day, sliding to 25 degrees at night.

Tender floated to purchase 120,000 tons of wheat – says ministry

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, floated a tender to purchase 120,000 tons of wheat to maintain the strategic reserves.

The ministry said on its official website that the deadline for bids is July 17th.

According to the ministry’s figures, Jordan consumes around 60,000 tons of wheat per month.

Jordan imports over 96 per cent of its wheat needs as domestic production covers only around 4 per cent of demand.

Finance minister takes part in Paris 9th Conference

Finance Minister Mohammad Issis took part in a panel discission, in Paris, on promoting sustainable financial practices to address public debt.

The session came within the meetings of the Paris 9th Conference, which is organized by the French Ministry of Treasury with the support of the G20 meetings, which is chaired by Indonesia this year.

Addressing the panel discussion, Issis said, “The citizen is the one who is directly affected by the repercussions of economic crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the impacts of the Russian-Ukrainian war on food and fuel prices globally, and therefore countries must draw up policies that address the deficiencies, to ease the burdens of these crises on citizens.”

Jordan has implemented a number of structural reforms aimed at protecting financial and economic stability and promoting growth to create job opportunities, Issia noted.

Issis indicated that,”The government’s program for financial and economic reform, in cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is on the right track, as the government was able, in its program, to achieve a more fair tax system. It does not raise the tax burden on the citizen, but rather focuses on enhancing revenues by combating tax and customs evasion without imposing new taxes or fees or raising current taxes and fees.”

He pointed out that such reforms and efforts reflected positively on investor confidence and Jordan’s ability to issue sovereign bonds, at a time other countries were not able to obtain financing.

61pct raise in Covid cases in July’s second week

The Ministry of Health said that the Kingdom has registered 2,135 new COVID-19 infections and one death in the 27th epidemiological week (2 July – 8 July), making a 61 percent compared with the same period in the 26th week.

According to the weekly brief issued by the ministry, the positivity rate of about 30,644 PCR tests collected countrywide was at 6.9 per cent.

The number of currently active cases stood at 1,768, with 15 admitted to hospitals during the week.

On vaccinations, the ministry said that a total of 1,803 persons have taken the first dose of Covid vaccines during the week and the number of those who were double-jabbed decreased to 2,082 compared with 7937 in the 26th week.

Army chief visits number of military units

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen Yousef Huneiti, on Sunday, visited the Habis Al Majali Fourth Royal Guard Mechanised Battalion, one of the units of the Eastern Military Zone, where he was received by its commander Brig. Gen. Nji Manaseer.

Huneiti also visited the Prince Hassan Fourth Mechanized Battalion and the Imam Ali 8th Mechanized Battalion, two of the units of the Northern Military Zone, where he was received by its acting commander Brig. Gen. Talal Odwan.

Huneiti listened to a briefing on operational, training and logistic issues concerning the two military zones.

Huneiti conveyed greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)-Arab Army to his comrades-in-arms, praising their efforts in implementing their duties.

or his part, the Acting Mufti of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF)-Arab Army highlighted the importance and role of the border guards, who have dedicated themselves to protecting the borders from any endeavors intended to undermine the security of the homeland, intimidate its citizens, and destabilize the security and stability of the Kingdom.

RJ: Flights could be delayed due to Omicron variant, passengers crowd

The Royal Jordanian (RJ) said that it may witness flights delayed due to passengers crowd, shortage in cadres working in airports and surge in Omicron variant cases.

The RJ, in a statement on Sunday, apologized to the passengers for any delay that could take place, adding that a number of its cadres tested positive for Omicron variant.

It stressed its keenness to provide the best services to its passengers and ensure their safety.
