Revamped e-gov’t service app “Sanad” launched

A revamped and feature-packed new version of the e-government service hub Sanad was launched Sunday following a major upgrade, according to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship.

In a statement Sunday, the ministry said the application is available for download for smart phones and other smart gadgets running iOS and Android, adding that current users can update instead of a clean reinstall.

It indicated that the new version sports a slew of news features designed for an optimal user journey, adding that the application serves as all-in-one government service hub accessible anywhere, anytime.

A key component of Sanad is the user’s digital ID which allows real-time access to personal documents and records, including personal ID, birth certificate, driver license, academic certificates as well as the coronavirus vaccination certificate. Also, users can pay their bills and other service fees using the app.

However, the activation of the digital ID requires a one-time visit to any Sanad station located in public and private institutions across the Kingdom. Non-Jordanians can also sign in to Sanad in a “guest mode” to access some government services.

The ministry said it will continue to collect feedback before rolling out more than 400 services to Sanad throughout 2022, in addition to the e-signature feature. According to the ministry, the application has been downloaded about 2.5 million times since its launch in August 2021.

Depression forecast to bring rain on Sunday

Very cold weather conditions are expected to prevail on Sunday countrywide, with clouds at low altitudes, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily update.

In the afternoon, the Kingdom will be affected by a depression centered over Turkey, bringing rainfall in the northern and central regions, extending to parts of the southwestern regions.

During the late night hours, light flurries of rain-mixed snow will fall over the highlands and winds will be westerly active, with strong gusts of dust in desert areas, the JMD added.

In its report, the JMD warned of the danger of frost formation in the early morning and late night hours, especially over the highlands and parts of the Badia regions. It also warned of slippery roads in the areas witnessing rainfall, and of low horizontal visibility in the mountainous areas due to the formation of fog and low clouds.

On Monday, a significant drop in mercury levels is forecast and the weather will be very cold, with continued downpour during daytime in the Kingdom’s northern, central and southwestern regions, the JMD said.

Cold weather will persist on Tuesday despite a slight rise in temperatures, with clouds at low altitudes and southeasterly moderate winds.

Today, the maximum and minimum temperatures in eastern Amman will range from 9 Celsius degrees to 1C during night, while highs in western Amman will be 7C and lows at 0C. The Gulf of Aqaba will see a fair 16C, dropping to 7C at night hours.

Aqaba ports’ revenues rose to JD66 million in 2021-ACPOM

Aqaba ports achieved an increase in revenues last year to reach JD66 million, up by 4%, compared to 2020, meanwhile their passenger traffic rose to 250,000 travellers, an increase of 17%.

In a press statement on Saturday, Director General of Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management (ACPOM), Khaled Maaitah, said the increase in the handling volume indicates Aqaba ports’ recovery after Covid-19 pandemic-related restrictions were imposed.

A total of 15 million million tonnes of various supplies, livestock and vehicles were handled at the ports, he pointed out.

Moreover, Maaitah pointed to a decline in container handling due to the rise in international freight rates and a drop in demand by traders and investors to transport goods of all kinds from the foreign market.

As the first 2022 investment in Jordan’s Golden Triangle, Maaitah announced a Djibouti ship, which is loaded with 1,320 heads of camels, has arrived to Aqaba ports and transported to the southern city of Ma’an for breeding.
