Jordan jails hospital chief over Covid-19 deaths

A Jordanian court on Sunday sentenced to three years in jail the director of a state hospital over the deaths of 10 patients at the facility which treated coronavirus patients. Abdel Razak al-Khashman and four aides were convicted of “causing the deaths” at the Salt state hospital where the patients died after it ran out of oxygen. ‫انضمت المملكة العربية السعودية إلى أكثر من 100 دولة في استقبال الزوار الذين تلقوا تطعيماً بلقاح “سبوتنيك V” عقب عمل مكثف من جانب وزارة الصحة في المملكة والصندوق الروسي للاستثمارات المباشرة، بدعم من وزارة الاستثمار السعودية

موسكو, 5 ديسمبر / كانون أول 2021 /PRNewswire/ — يعلن الصندوق الروسي للاستثمارات المباشرة (صندوق الثروة السيادية لروسيا) أن المملكة العربية السعودية منحت الموافقة على دخول الأفراد الذين تلقوا تطعيماً بلقاح “سبوتنيك V” الروسي اعتباراً من 1 يناير من عام 2022.

انضمت المملكة العربية السعودية إلى 101 دولة أخرى وافقت على دخول الأفراد الذين تلقوا تطعيماً بلقاح “سبوتنيك V” عقب التعاون والنقاشات المكثفة بين وزارة الصحة السعودية والصندوق الروسي للاستثمارات المباشرة، بدعم من وزارة الاستثمار في المملكة. وكان منح الموافقة على زيارة المطعمين بلقاح “سبوتنيك V” للمملكة العربية السعودية والخطوات المشتركة التالية في مواجهة الجائحة محور الاجتماع بين وزير الصحة السعودي فهد الجلاجل ووزير الاستثمار السعودي خالد الفالح والرئيس التنفيذي للصندوق الروسي للاستثمارات المباشرة كيريل دميترييف في الرياض في وقت سابق من شهر نوفمبر الجاري.

سيمكن القرار الذي تم التوصل إليه المسلمين من جميع أنحاء العالم الذين تلقوا تطعيماً بلقاح “سبوتنيك V” من المشاركة في أداء مناسك الحج والعمرة.

سيطلب من الأشخاص الذين تلقوا تطعيماً بلقاح “سبوتنيك V” عند دخول البلاد الخضوع لحجر صحي لمدة 48 ساعة وإجراء اختبار PCR.

تظهر الدول التي تفتح حدودها أمام المطعمين بلقاح “سبوتنيك V” العزم على مساعدة قطاع السياحة وأنشطة الأعمال فيها على التعافي بشكل أسرع. ومع فتح المملكة العربية السعودية حدودها أمام الأشخاص الذين تلقوا تطعيماً بلقاح “سبوتنيك V“، سيلعب هذا القرار دوراً مهماً في زيادة التدفقات السياحية وإقامة علاقات جديدة في نطاق الأعمال بين روسيا والمملكة، بما في ذلك من خلال أنشطة المجلس الاقتصادي الروسي السعودي.

يهدف المجلس الذي تم تأسيسه في عام 2019 إلى تطوير العلاقات الاقتصادية والتجارية الثنائية وكذلك الاستثمارات بين روسيا والمملكة العربية السعودية في جميع القطاعات. ويشارك في رئاسة المجلس الرئيس التنفيذي للصندوق الروسي للاستثمارات المباشرة كيريل دميترييف وصاحب السمو الملكي الأمير عبد الله بن بندر بن عبد العزيز وزير الحرس الوطني في المملكة.

وبوجه عام، يعد الفصل بين ترخيص اللقاحات المضادة لفيروس كورونا وشهادات التطعيم خطوة مهمة أخرى لتجنب التمييز ضد اللقاحات ودعم جهود الحكومات في إعادة فتح الحدود بأمان لكل من السكان المحليين والسائحين.

المتطلبات الرئيسة لـ 102 دولة تسمح بالزيارات بعد تلقي التطعيم بلقاح “سبوتنيك V“[1]:

Ø  يمكن للأفراد الذين تلقوا تطعيماً بلقاح “سبوتنيك V” زيارة ما يصل إلى 31 دولة دون الحاجة لأي موافقة إضافية تتعلق بكوفيد -19،

Ø  تطلب 71 دولة أخرى وجود نتيجة سلبية لاختبار PCR أو نتيجة إيجابية لفحص الأجسام المضادة أو لديها متطلبات إضافية عند الدخول.

تطلب 15 دولة فقط لقاحات أخرى لا تشمل اللقاح “سبوتنيك V“. وتعتمد 5 دول منها فقط (تمثل أقل من 9% من رحلات السفر الدولية)، بما في ذلك الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية (تمثل أقل من 3%)، بشكل كامل على قائمة منظمة الصحة العالمية للقاحات المعتمدة والتي من المتوقع أن يدرج اللقاح “سبوتنيك V” ضمنها خلال العام الجاري.

Police chief meets Palestinian counterpart over enhancing cooperation

Director of Public Security Department (PSD), Major Gen. Hussein Hawatmeh, on Sunday discussed with Director General of the Palestinian Civil Police (PCP) Major Gen. Yousef al-Helou, ways to increase joint cooperation on issues of common interest.

 

Hawatmeh said the PSD harnesses all its expertise to serve the security services workers from brotherly countries, lauding the current level of cooperation with the Palestinian side, especially in the areas of training and police-capacity building.

 

Al-Helou, for his part, praised the PSD’s level, and its relations with the Palestinian security apparatus, voicing hope to increase cooperation in the field of police training and expertise, which would contribute to serving common interests.

Jordan’s oil bill rises to JD1.2 billion in 3rd quarter-DoS

The Kingdom’s oil bill increased during the third quarter of 2021, by 16.4 percent, compared to the same period last year, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Sunday.

 

According to DoS figures, the value of the oil bill amounted to about JD1.198 billion in the third quarter of 2021, compared to the same period last year, which stood at about JD1.029 billion.

 

Crude oil topped the list of the Kingdom’s imports of oil derivatives, amounting to about JD532 million, while diesel imports stood at JD247 million, followed by lubricants at JD19 million, petroleum gases at JD118 million, gasoline at JD279 million, and kerosene at about JD2 million.

WANA launches alumni club for researchers

The West Asia-North Africa Institute (WANA), in partnership with IM Swedish Development Partner, launched the Institute’s Research Alumni Club for a network of researchers on issues of marginalised women and persons with disabilities.

 

In a statement on Sunday, the WANA said that upon completing the Research Training Programme that aims to shed light on the issues of vulnerable groups in the Jordanian society by writing policy papers on social and economic inclusion, trainees join the Research Alumni Club. Every year, according to pre-determined criteria, 20 young men and women from different governorates are selected to join the programme.

 

“The WANA Institute and IM believe in the active role of youth towards the issues of marginalised women and persons with disabilities, thus the launch of the Research Alumni Club,” the statement said. Currently, the club includes a group of 60 young researchers, advocates and defenders of the rights of women and persons with disabilities. These researchers act as ambassadors in their local communities to spread awareness and legal knowledge of the rights of marginalised women and persons with disabilities; to contribute to achieving social justice and to preserving human dignity.

 

Project coordinator and researcher Hayat Al-Shoubaki at the WANA Institute, said, “The Alumni Club aims to strengthen communication frameworks and exchange experiences and research opportunities between young researchers, and to identify ways to develop and transform their research work from the theory to actual application in their local communities.”

 

Shereen Shaheen, Director of Programmes at the WANA Institute, added, “Through launching the programme’s alumni club, the Institute aspires to establish a network of young Jordanian researchers who are aware of their economic and social rights, and are able to write policy papers and formulate public policies that contribute effectively to strengthening the means of dialogue with decision-makers on the rights of women and people with disabilities”.

 

Ghaith Al Shugairi, Programme Manager at IM, stated, “IM Swedish Development partner, seeks, through its partnerships with civil society institutions in Jordan, to strategically create opportunities for sustainability and continuity. Having an alumni club that brings together all rights holders and beneficiaries of the programme will provide the appropriate incubator for exchanging experiences among them and obtaining joint opportunities for joint learning and skills development. We hope that the research alumni club will be able to create job opportunities, economic and social integration, and achieve a participatory approach with stakeholders.”

Parliamentary committee, Romanian envoy talk ties

The Head of the Jordanian-European parliamentary committee Khaldoun Hayna on Sunday discussed with Romania’s Ambassador George Christian ties and the latest regional developments.

 

During the meeting, Hayna said that Jordan and Romania have strong political relations that are based on the friendship between the two countries’ leaders, pointing to a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding, as well as jointly implemented programs in the energy, culture, tourism, agriculture and investment areas.

 

He pointed out the importance of strengthening trade, economic and parliamentary relations, especially in light of the difficult circumstances imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

On regional issues, the meeting tackled the status quo, especially with regard to the Palestinian cause, and the positions of His Majesty King Abdullah II towards Palestinians and achieving security and stability in the Middle East. Hayna stressed the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

 

The parliamentary committee hailed the level the “distinguished relations” have reached in various fields, underscoring that they are based on mutual respect and ongoing coordination on various issues of concern.

 

The members of the committee urged establishing partnerships with the private sector in Romania, overcoming the obstacles facing Jordanian investors in Romanian markets, increasing scholarships for Jordanian students, and leveraging medical tourism in Jordan.

 

For his part, Christian said that his country supports the Hashemite Custodianship over the holy sites in Jerusalem, and the ongoing role of King Abdullah in achieving comprehensive and just peace in the region.

 

He also stressed the need to develop and enhance relations with Jordan, especially in the economic, security and trade cooperation areas, noting that the mutual visits between the leaders of the two countries will prop up economic cooperation, and motivate the private sector and businessmen to leverage the available opportunities in the Kingdom.

JCC chief meets Indonesian constitutional court delegation over reviving cooperation

President of Jordan Constitutional Court (JCC), Hisham Al-Tal, met Sunday, with a delegation from the Indonesian Constitutional Court (ICC).

 

According to the JCC’s media office, the discussions aimed to invite the JCC to participate in the Fifth Congress of World Conference on Constitutional Justice (WCCJ), which will be held in the Indonesian city of Bali next year.

 

Both sides discussed the terms of the joint memorandum of understanding, which seek to strengthen mutual cooperation and exchange visits and related expertise, the office added.

 

For their part, the delegation thanked the JCC in its capacity as president of the Union of Arab Constitutional Courts and Councils (UACCC)

 

and a member of the Association of Asian Constitutional Courts and Equivalent Institutions (AACC) for its support to Indonesia to host the WCCJ.

House speaker meets Moroccan, Indian ambassadors

Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, Abdel Karim Al-Dughmi, met separately on Sunday with the ambassadors of Morocco and India in Amman, and discussed with them prospects for expanding cooperation between Jordan and their two countries in various fields.

 

In his meeting with Moroccan Ambassador Sidi Mohamed Khaled Al-Nasiri, Al-Dughmi said that Jordan and Morocco see eye-to-eye on many issues in the region, stressing that the bilateral relationship is based on trust, mutual respect, and harmonized positions.

 

The Moroccan ambassador delivered a letter from the Moroccan Lower House Speaker Rachid Talbi Alami, in which he urged furthering relations and joint parliamentary cooperation.

 

In his meeting with India’s Ambassador Anwar Halim, Al-Dughmi underscored the importance of cementing relations, and enhancing prospects for mutual investment by leveraging the strategic location of both countries. Jordan’s location, he noted, makes it an effective gateway to the region, while India is becoming increasingly prominent in global trade and business, pointing to its expertise in the information technology sector, which the Kingdom could utilize .

 

The Indian envoy hailed Jordan’s role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to achieve security and stability in the region. He voiced his country’s commitment to enhancing prospects for trade and investment cooperation, and offering consultations and sharing experiences with Jordanian youth, especially in medium- and small-sized projects.

‘Clear’ mechanism set to debate constitutional amendments-House panel

The Lower House Legal Committee held its first meeting on Sunday, headed by Abdel Moneim Awdat, during which mechanisms for its work in the next phase were outlined.

 

Awdat said the committee had set a “clear” work agenda to discuss the constitutional amendments and the elections and party laws, which were referred to the panel, with an “urgency status”.

 

To engage the concerned stakeholders, the lawmaker said the committee is “keen” to listen to all viewpoints from various experts, and appreciates the different opinions, which seek to serve national interests.

 

Awdat added: “We will make sure to listen to all in an extensive and in-depth manner to reach the best outcomes aimed to strengthen Jordan’s reform process.”
