Body found in Karak’s ‘Ayy

Police on Wednesday found the body of a sixty-year-old man in the Al-Shajar area, south of the town of Katherba, in the district of ‘Ayy in Karak, southern Jordan.

Director of the Karak Public Hospital, Moutaz Al-Qaralla, told the Jordan News Agency (Petra), that the body arrived at the hospital and was transferred to the forensic medicine department.

An autopsy found that the cause of death was multiple arterial clots, Al-Qaralla added.

UN calls on donors to fulfill their pledges towards Afghanistan

The United Nations (UN) called on donors to fulfill their pledges and commitments made during the conference to announce pledges to support Afghanistan, which was held on September 13, to ensure the response of humanitarian organizations “before it is too late”.

The appeal has so far received only 35 percent of the total requested amount, despite the flow of support and global attention to the difficult situation in Afghanistan, a statement of its the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Wednesday, according to the UN official website.

The statement called on member states to allow the free, rapid and unrestricted movement of humanitarian supplies and personnel to and from Afghanistan, and to provide humanitarian financial waivers to allow funds to reach relief organizations in the country.

COVID kills 12 in Jordan, positive tests at 4.2 percent

COVID-19 killed 11 in Jordan in the last 24 hours, as the death toll stands at 10,774 and a total of 1,316 cases were recorded, pushing the caseload to some 829,888, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH).

The MoH said in a press statement Wednesday that 4.2 percent of the 31,200 tests conducted today came back positive.

It said 44 people had recovered and were discharged from hospitals while 56 others were admitted, as the total number of COVID-19 patients receiving medical treatment in hospitals stands at 428.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Kingdom hovers around 13,300, it added.

Some 805,800 COVID-19 patients, including patients who had been self-isolating, have fully recovered so far.

UK reports 143 COVID fatalities

The UK’s health department Wednesday reported 143 COVID-19 deaths, as the death toll stands at 137,295.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said 39,851 people tested positive for the highly contagious lung disease, taking the caseload across the UK nears 8.6 million.

Booster COVID shot centres to open Thursday

Centres designated to administer booster COVID-19 shots will open Thursday October 7, health minister said Wednesday.

In an opening ceremony of the third Dental Implants National Programme, Minister of Health Feras Hawari urged people who have not had their COVID-19 vaccine yet to go and take it. He emphasised the importance of abiding by the safety measures amidst a spike in cases.

Hawari called on medical staff whose vaccination exceeded six months, those over 60 and vulnerable groups to seek a booster shot.

The national COVID-19 response commission recommended on September 29 administering a booster shot.
