Royal Initiatives: Issawi inaugurates projects in Zarqa, Mafraq governorates

Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Yousef Issawi, head of the follow-up committee for the implementation of Royal Initiatives, on Saturday inaugurated development projects in the governorates of Zarqa and Mafraq.

In Zarqa, he opened a cardboard and toilet paper factory in Russeifa, part of a productivity programme under the Royal Initiatives that seeks to create jobs in areas with high youth unemployment, particularly among women.

Accompanied by Labour Minister Yousef Shamali, Issawi was briefed on the various stages of production at the facility, one of dozens of big company projects or branches that have been launched in 2008 in various areas where young men and women can go to the workplace after receiving training.

The factory kicked off in implementation of His Majesty King Abdullah’s pledges that were made during his tours of various regions to carry out projects to improve the living conditions of citizens, offer quality services, upgrade infrastructure and enhance comprehensive economic and social development.

The Labour Minister said the Russeifa factory, the 31st manufacturing facility launched under the Productivity Branches Initiative, creates 250 job opportunities in its initial phase, that will be increased to 400 in the near future.

Naim Natour, a factory worker, said that before joining the facility, which offered him a job with a stable income, he took a two-month training course to acquire the necessary technical skills.

Issawi, in the attendance Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Khalayleh, opened the public garden of Al-Arab Mosque, which was implemented in cooperation with the Zaha Cultural Centre, and includes a center for developing childhood skills, a five-a-side playground, a children’s play area and other facilities for the local people and children of all age groups “within a healthy and safe environment.”

In June, 2018, His Majesty King Abdullah inaugurated the new four-storey mosque in the heart of Zarqa city, which can accommodate about 4,500 worshipers, and also houses a health centre with obstetrics and dental clinics as well as health facilities for persons with disabilities.

In Mafraq governorate, the Royal Court Chief handed over to an underprivileged family in Mughir Al-Sarhan the keys to their new home under the Royal initiative for the housing of poor families.

In remarks to Petra at the end of his tour, Issawi said that improving the quality of life for citizens and providing them with quality services is a top priority of His Majesty, adding that projects have been launched in the various regions to meet the basic needs of target groups, improve the level of services in local communities and carry out job-generating projects.

Indian envoy opens joint center for excellence in IT

India’s Ambassador to Jordan Anwar Halim on Saturday opened the Indo-Jordanian Center for Excellence in Information Technology at Al-Hussein Technical University (HTU).

During the opening, Halim lauded His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts in promoting technological progress, and his quest to turn Jordan into a pioneer in this field, based on his keenness on the importance of technology in contemporary life.

He said that the establishment of the center, which will be fully managed by the HTU and Jordanian expertise, comes within the framework of Jordan and India’s keenness to keep pace with everything new in the world “to serve the interests of our two friendly countries and peoples.”

He indicated that the center will work, within the next five-year plan, to train and graduate about 3,000 experts from Jordan in the field of technology, who will undoubtedly contribute to leading and promoting technological progress, and achieving Jordan’s development and advancement.

The center an initiatives of the Crown Prince Foundation (CPF), which was established in cooperation between the HTU and India’s C-DAC Center.

King directs government to look into special pardon for those convicted of lèse-majesté

His Majesty King Abdullah on Saturday directed the government to look into all cases related to lèse-majesté, which violate article 195 of the Penal Code and in which final rulings have been issued, in order to grant a special pardon to those convicted in such cases.

PM visits Egypt’s New Administrative Capital

Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Saturday visited Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, eastern Cairo.

At the Cabinet headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Khasawneh and Egyptian counterpart Mostafa Madbouly held a session of bilateral talks, followed by an expanded one attended by relevant officials from both sides and dealt with bilateral ties and issues of common interest.

The two prime ministers lauded the deep-rooted and strategic ties between Jordan and Egypt, and their keenness to develop aspects of inter-cooperation and benefit from successful experiences and expertise, especially in light of the remarkable development of relations led by His Majesty King Abdullah and President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

The expanded meeting, which was attended by the government delegation accompanying Khasawneh and Jordan ambassador to Egypt, the premier was briefed on the idea of the new administrative capital project, its implementation plan and stages, and mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between state institutions and the Egyptian armed forces.

Khasawneh stressed the government’s keenness to benefit from major expertise and projects in Egypt, and to enhance coordination and cooperation between Jordanian and Egyptian government agencies in accessing and benefiting from them.

He expressed his admiration for the advanced level of the new administrative capital, which reflects the speed and level of achievement being realized in Egypt, and the process of development and advancement it is witnessing in various fields.

“We are witnessing a model of a clear and tangible achievement,” Khasawneh said.

PM visits Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, 1st, final add

At the beginning of the meeting, the Egyptian Prime Minister welcomed the visit of Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh to the new administrative capital, as the first visit of an Arab official at this level to examine the project, and which confirms the strength of coordination between Jordan and Egypt and the keenness to exchange expertise and benefit from experiences in both countries.

The Egyptian Prime Minister explained the planning, financing and implementation strategy on which the New Administrative Capital project is based on, and the governmental, residential, cultural and service facilities and neighborhoods that it includes, to serve as an integrated city on an area of 170,000 acres, and its implementation is supervised by the New Urban Communities Authority and the Egyptian Armed Forces.

Khasawneh and Madbouly toured key projects, facilities and landmarks in the Administrative Capital, during which relevant officials gave a briefing on these projects, their progress, the level of achievement and the future stages of the projects, some of which are under construction.

Senior officials from both countries attended the meeting.

9 virus deaths, 548 infections recorded Saturday

The Ministry of Health said Saturday it recorded nine coronavirus deaths and 548 infections across the Kingdom, bringing the death toll from the pandemic to10,736 and the caseload to 825,245.

The positivity rate of PCR tests collected today was 2.65 per cent, according to the daily media brief by the ministry.

It said that the number of currently active Covid-19 cases stood at 12,564, with 63 admitted to hospitals and 44 discharged today, and the total number of confirmed cases currently being hospitalized was 460.

It pointed out that the occupancy rate of isolation beds in the northern region was 9 per cent, intensive care beds 22 per cent and respirators 10 per cent.

In the central region, the occupancy rate of isolation beds was 12 per cent, intensive care beds 24 per cent and respirators 10 per cent, it said.

In the southern region, the occupancy rate of isolation beds was 9 per cent, intensive care beds 9 per cent and respirators 5 per cent, according to the report.

It also said 920 Covid-19 patients have recovered, bringing the total number of expected recoveries after the end of the 14-day isolation period to 801,945.

The ministry said 20,716 PCR tests were collected, bringing the total since the beginning of the pandemic to 10,122,069.

Jordanian doctor: First Covid-19 drug will be available late this year

Jordanian doctor Safwat Haddadin said Saturday he predicts the new coronavirus drug Molnupiravir will be available in the US market later this year after undergoing clinical trials.

Haddadin, who supervised the clinical development of the drug, told Petra that the success of Molnupiravir is a milestone achievement for the team of scientists that worked for a year and a half to reach “this historical moment and make a major transformation in the battle against the coronavirus.”

Pharmaceutical giant Merck has said its drug reduces the risk of hospitalization or death by around 50% for patients with mild or moderate cases of Covid.

If authorized by regulatory bodies, molnupiravir could be the first oral antiviral medicine for Covid.
