Jordan-African parliamentary friendship association meets South African envoy, 1st, final add

The president and members of the association commended South Africa’s firm stance on the Palestinian cause and its support for the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites.

For his part, Ambassador Saley said that the relations between the two countries are close and similar at all levels, stressing his country’s keenness to boosting those relations and work on cooperation and exchange of expertise, visits and meetings that serve the two countries.

On the Palestinian issue, the Saley said that his country’s position is clear and consistent and does not differ from Jordan’s, as it is consistent with international legitimacy that supports the two-state solution based on the June 4, 1967 borders, and that East Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine.

He underscored his country’s support for the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, pointing out that peaceful dialogue is the best solution to the Palestinian cause.

Mutah, Anbar universities discuss academic cooperation

President of Mutah University, Arafat Awajan, met Tuesday with President of the Iraqi University of Anbar, Mushtaq Taleb Al-Nada.

The meeting, held via the teleconference, discussed ways of academic and scientific cooperation and the exchange of expertise between the two universities.

Awajan expressed the university’s desire to open up to Arab and international universities and to develop its academic and scientific relations with them in order to achieve the university’s vision and its endeavor to consolidate real partnerships with those universities with the aim of exchanging expertise and academic cooperation, especially scientific research.

Awajan showcased the university’s plans and academic programs to attract Arab and foreign students to study in its undergraduate and graduate programs.

For his part, Al-Nada stressed the University of Anbar’s keenness to continue and strengthen joint cooperation with Mutah University due to its academic and research reputation at local, regional and international levels.

He added that this meeting will pave the way for the signing of a joint cooperation agreement between the two universities soon.

Higher education ministry denies granting additional marks to vaccinated students

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research disregarded as “untrue” reports on media outlets that some public universities are considering granting additional marks to specialization subjects to students who receive the Corona vaccine.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Muhanad Khatib, said that monitoring the marks for university students is subject to the legislation in force in each university

Khatib urged all media outlets to investigate the accuracy of the news being circulated and not to publish news that harms the reputation of the Jordanian higher education sector.

On the other hand, the ministry said that it is following up on the plan to vaccinate faculty members and workers in Jordanian universities and colleges, in addition to university students, which will have the largest role in promoting the return to in-class education on campus at the beginning of the next academic year 2021/2022.

Jordan-African parliamentary friendship association meets South African envoy

President and members of the Jordan-African Parliamentary Friendship Association met Tuesday with South Africa Ambassador to Jordan, Ebrahim Saley.

The meeting discussed relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance them in all fields, especially parliamentary fields.

During the meeting, the association president MP Dina Bashir said that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, has a firm and solid stance towards the Palestinian cause so that Palestinian brothers could attain their right to establish their independent state on their national soil.

She stressed that the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem constitutes a guarantee to protect Jerusalem and preserve its Arabness, lauding the King’s efforts in defending Jerusalem in all regional and international forums.

Bashir stressed the importance of strengthening Jordanian relations with South Africa and framing them at various levels to serve the common interests of both countries and the two friendly peoples.

She called for enhancing aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two sides in economic, investment, educational, tourism and agricultural fields, underlining the need to open new horizons, especially between the private sector in both countries, through exchanging visits, enhancing communication, and benefiting from available opportunities and competitive advantage.

UK reports highest daily Covid death toll since March

The United Kingdom reported 138 new deaths from the coronavirus, up from 24 deaths recorded Monday, the highest daily toll since March 17, bringing the deaths toll to 129,881.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said that it had recorded 21,691 new Covid cases, down from 21,952 yesterday, bringing the total caseload to 5,923,820.

Safadi also stressed that Jordan will continue its uninterrupted efforts to maintain calm and progress towards achieving a just and lasting peace on the basis of the two-state solution that embodies the independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital, to co-exist in security and peace alongside Israel in accordance with international law and the Arab peace initiative.

He said that Jordan is reaching out to everyone, including the Israeli government, in order to find the political horizon required for progress towards a just peace, to prevent a recurrence of the recent escalation and its causes, and to stop all measures that undermine the two-state solution and the chances of achieving a just peace, stressing that the situation cannot continue as it is.

In response to a question about the issue of sedition, Safadi said that Jordan’s stability is solid and sedition was nipped in the bud before it posed any threat to the security of the Kingdom, noting that the issue was dealt with according to the Jordanian approach characterized by calm and wisdom.

Safadi added that Jordan is now focusing on everything that is basic and necessary for its future and interests, namely the political reform that His Majesty the King formed a royal committee to modernise, as well as economic reform that addresses economic challenges, ensures better performance of the Jordanian economy, fights poverty and creates job opportunities.
