Accidental blast hits near al-Kharj in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday that an accidental explosion took place near the city of al-Kharj, southeast of the capital Riyadh.

 

The ministry spokesperson, Brigadier General Turki al-Malki, said the blast went off in a square outside the city, used for the collection and disposal of ammunitions that are no longer suitable for use.

 

“No injures were reported,” he added, noting that investigation is underway on the incident’s reasons.

230 radical settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque

Some 230 Jewish extremist settlers on Wednesday stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Haram Al Sharif compound in occupied East Jerusalem.

 

The Islamic Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Affairs Department told Petra’s reporter in Ramallah that the radical settlers carried out today’s raids in groups, under heavy protection of Israeli special police and forces.

 

“The settlers provocatively toured the courtyards, while Muslim worshipers and the mosque’s guards peacefully confronted them,” it added.

Agricultural Producers’ Price Index down 13.7%

The Price Index of Agricultural Producers inched down by 13.7% during the January-May period of 2021 reaching 105.3 points compared with 122 points during the same period of last year.

 

According to data issued by the Department of Statistics on Wednesday, the Price Index of Agricultural Producers dropped by 10.4% during May of this year reaching 116.9 points compared with 130.5 points during the same month of last year.

 

On a monthly level, the Price Index of Agricultural Producers in May of 2021 picked up by 1.2% reaching the 116.9 points compared to 115.5 during April of this year.

Iraq commends Jordan’s solidarity following hospital fire incident

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday praised Jordan’s solidarity following an incident where a fire broke out at a hospital in the Dhi Qar governorate, killing and injuring dozens.

 

Yesterday evening, Jordan had announced it was prepared to receive victims of the incident in its local hospitals to provide the necessary treatment.

 

A statement, posted on the Iraqi ministry’s official website on Wednesday, indicated that “Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein received a phone call from his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi, during which he said that Jordanian hospitals are ready to receive the injured and provide any needed assistance.”

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi had also conveyed the condolences of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the government and people of Iraq over the tragic incident.

PM makes surprise visit to land department

Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh on Wednesday made a surprise visit to the Department of Lands and Survey and was briefed on the work progress of the services provided.

 

During the visit, the Prime Minister stressed the need to speed up the completion of citizens’ paperwork, reduce the time it takes to finish them, and remove any bureaucratic obstacles in accordance with the law. He also underlined the need for the department’s work to be swift and accurate and for streamlining procedures while simultaneously preserving private and public rights and properties.

 

Khasawneh instructed the department to move ahead with the automation of all services in accordance with standards that guarantee rights, reduce human involvement, and make a difference in the level and speed of services provided. He underscored the need to operate within a framework that preserves people’s rights, and ensures the elimination of any infringement on the law.

 

The general feature of the Jordanian administration, he noted, is commitment and the rule of law, underlining the need for the highest levels of transparency, integrity, and facilitations for citizens, especially in important departments such as the Department of Lands and Surveys, which is the backbone of real estate ownership.

 

The Prime Minister pointed out the need for the department’s mechanisms to keep pace with the efforts aimed at enabling investment and supporting the private sector using clear, transparent and automated

 

procedures to contributes to supporting existing and future investments.

 

“We always count on our good cadres in our institutions and employ their expertise and competencies in developing work mechanisms, facilitating procedures and avoiding old methods of service provision. Tax-paying citizens have the right to decent services within a reasonable timescale,” he added.

CSCC slashes prices of 290 commodities in its markets countrywide

The Civil Service Consumer Corporation (CSCC) has cut prices of more than 290 essential commodities as part of its promotional campaign that begins on Thursday and will continue until the end of July.

 

The CSCC Director General, Salman Qudah, said the reduced rate on goods ranged between 7 to 35 percent.

 

Qudah, in a press statement on Wednesday, added that the price reductions continue the CSCC’s policy to alleviate the citizens’ burdens, especially those with low and medium incomes, and protect the public from soaring prices.

 

All goods are available in “large” quantities in all the CSCC’ 67 markets countrywide, he noted, calling on citizens to visit the corporation’s Facebook page to view details of the discounted items.

 

Qudah confirmed that all the discounted goods passed the necessary lab tests and health requirements before hitting its shelfs.

 

To ensure the citizens’ safety, Qudah called on the CSCC’s shoppers to adhere to preventive and public safety measures to curb Covid-19 spread.

King condoles Iraq president over victims of hospital fire

His Majesty King Abdullah, in a phone call on Wednesday with Iraq President Barham Salih, extended condolences over the victims of the Imam Hussein Teaching Hospital fire in Nasiriyah, Dhi Qar Governorate, which killed scores and injured others.

 

King Abdullah expressed sympathies on behalf of the Jordanian people and government, wishing the injured a speedy recovery and stressing Jordan’s readiness to support the Iraqi people.

Environment minister, British envoy discuss climate conference

Minister of Environment, Nabil Masarweh, discussed with the British Ambassador Bridget Brind arrangements for the 26th Conference of the Parties for the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

 

Masarweh pointed out that the conference will be held in November of this year in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

 

Given the importance of this conference at the national and international levels, Masarweh reviewed the top Jordanian preparations, and the climate-responsive achievements the Kingdom has made.

China Media Group and ASEAN media set up partnership to boost regional development

BEIJING, July 14, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — The China Media Group (CMG) and ASEAN media on Wednesday initiated a partnership which has been established to promote mutual communications at the 2021 ASEAN Media Partners Forum.

Members agreed to issue a joint statement, which aims at strengthening cooperation between the CMG and ASEAN media partners in the post-pandemic era and fostering greater regional prosperity.

A signing ceremony was held between CCTV+, Vietnam News Agency and Vietnam Rural TV of the Voice of Vietnam. The launch ceremony for the 2021 Lancang-Mekong Mobile Cinema and the documentary Amazing Southeast Asia were also held during the forum. These projects aim to promote stronger intercultural communication among Chinese and ASEAN people.

The forum concluded with an online panel discussion, which saw Chinese and ASEAN media representatives around the theme of “Media Cooperation & Regional Development.” The panelists discussed specific topics such as fighting against fake news and media bias.
